The Secretary of State Rex Tillerson was sacked by president of the US Donald Trump. His replacement will be the head of the CIA Mike Pompeo.
At the CIA the first woman is to become the head of the intelligent service Gina Haspel. She was Deputy Director of the CIA and also a longtime agent. She was head of several “black sites”, specifically in Thailand. She is accused to have tortured detainees and even destroyed evidence.
Regardless she and Pompeo were praised by Trump:
“I am proud to nominate the Director of the Central Intelligence Agency, Mike Pompeo, to be our new Secretary of State,” Trump said. “Mike graduated first in his class at West Point, served with distinction in the U.S. Army, and graduated with Honors from Harvard Law School. He went on to serve in the U.S. House of Representatives with a proven record of working across the aisle.”
The statement of Gina Haspel is the following:
“After 30 years as an officer of the Central Intelligence Agency, it has been my honor to serve as its Deputy Director alongside Mike Pompeo for the past year, I am grateful to President Trump for the opportunity, and humbled by his confidence in me, to be nominated to be the next Director of the Central Intelligence Agency.”
Tillerson was fired while he was touring Africa. But circles in America say that the sacking was expected. He was the CEO of oil giant ExxonMobil.
